Memories with Peter Lindbergh

Peter Lindbergh & Toru Takamatsu

My eternal idol, Peter Lindbergh. When I was in college, I met his photographs and instantly fell in love with the world. I just bought his photobooks and the throat of the book broke. I saw them over and over again. Just as he focused on the characters of the super model and put out their intentions all over the photo, I also focused on the characters of the models in Koakuma ageha and focused on their intentions. I tried to put it all over the photo. The clear story telling of his photo is created by monochrome photography, but I create it by panning color photography to the limit of tone jumping. He also tried to use a telescope to compress the background and make the model stand out, but on the contrary, I approached the model to the limit and tried to make it happen by shooting up close. The picture of my Koakuma ageha was created by my longing for Peter Lindbergh. Unexpectedly, I had the opportunity to meet him and told him crazy about it, he said "Thank you, Toru. Thank you!" he answered over and over again. A few years later, when I was told his obituary, I was stunned as if there was a hole in my heart. I felt that some of the photographs I had had come to an end in me. Mr. Peter Lindbergh, despite being a mediocre person, I am a very lucky photographer who has had a wonderful photography experience in my life thanks to you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. And thank you for the fate of meeting your work.
